Choosing Israel’s National Bird

America has one, so does Latvia and Singapore. Israel is getting ready to select it’s very own national bird — a tough choice given the volume of bird species that use Israel as a flyway every year, travelling from Africa to Europe and then back again.
This green prophet is in favor of the hoopoe.

The hoopoe is my favorite too! has been since I moved to Israel - but I’ve been seeing less of them in the past few years…
I heard a story about the knesset members who were discussing the options for national bird, when the “bulbul” was raised as a possibility - they opted against it saying, “do we have to stick our bulbul in everything?” (haha)
