Please please follow up post if people start opening second hand stores here. One, to buy stuff, but also, there's no place to pass stuff along here either!

Wonderful advice! When our daughter was born we flew back to Israel via England and while in England she slept in a pulled out bottom drawer of cabinet. She didn't know the difference and everyone was happy. My husband kept telling me how he and his siblings all slept in banana boxes when they were little and that babies don't care where they sleep. How true!

I also only shopped for 2nd hand items when they were all little. I got terrific bargains, and many clothes even came with tags - babies grow so fast we don't often get to use all the items we receive as gifts. I never thought of it as being "green", but it just seemed a waste to buy new items for a baby that wouldn't know the difference.

I would love to read about any other tips for being "green". I've begun to renew my compost heap in our backyard and would love to find a way to ease up on our water consumption too.
